The Indian and Colonial Research Center will be closed until further notice due to the aftermath of flooding in Southeastern Connecticut. All archival materials have been moved off-site and are unavailable for research purposes until repairs and rehabilitation have been completed. Recent updates as of 12/10/11

Since the March 2010 flood action was taken by the Board of Directors.

  • Construction is nearing completion by the Contractor
  • Work yet to be completed:  some electrical work,  installation of the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning delivery grills, completion of  final trim
  • On a separate contract completion of Security /Fire/Low temperature/Water Detection System to be done by ASP

After all this work is completed, then volunteers will be needed to clean, paint, refinish floors.  Used desks have been donated and stored off-site, we will need to purchase file cabinets and other miscellaneous items.  Used library shelving was purchased earlier in the year and are stored off-site.  Once the buildings are complete we will need more volunteers to start moving furniture items and finally our collections which have been stored since 2010 back to their home.

Previous work completed:

  • Applied and filled out paper work with FEMA which accomplished promised payments of $16,755.99 for reconstruction.
  • Appeals letter sent to all members which resulted in donations of $9439.61.
  • Annual meeting in November resulted in additional donations of $1490.00.
  • Total of $27,683.60.
  • Re-building committee established.
  • Old sheetrock, insulation, flooring, etc has been removed.
  • K&N General Contractors of North Stonington has been selected to rebuild the back two rooms
  • Board of Directors are working on details of the Contract
  • Rebuilding should begin Mid September
  • Goal of $50,000 was set – ICRC  has raised $30,000 – $20,000 to go
  • “Irene” brought down tree on back part of ICRC
  • Rick Arms, owner of the tree and loyal member, had tree removed
  • Article in Stonington/Mystic Patch sent in newsletter to all members
