Summary:
The Groton Public Library , via a unique publishing program begun in 1984 under former library director Gretchen Hammerstein, published Ray Rancourt's biography of Stonington resident, Louis M. Bayer, entitled "Lou Bayer, Guardian of the Outdoors", which outlines the 32 year career of a state game warden. After retiring he was instrumental in the preservation of Barn Island where a memorial stone recognizes his efforts.
