Title:
Letter from William Pynchon to John Winthrop
Date:
September 15, 1645
Scope & Content:
Mimeograph transcription of a letter to John Winthrop concerning the upcoming peace between the Narrragansett/Nehantic faction and the Mohegans. The wars between the tribes have cost many English and Indian lives. The Mohegans believe that the Narragansett sachem will keep his word during the peace–making process but they distrust the Nehantic sachem. They are convinced that he will break his word in the spring. But for now, the bloodshed has slowed and a semblance of peace has been restored to the United Colonies.
