Old Lyme's Griswold Circle– an American Indian occupation site, believed to have been a pallisaded village– was discovered in 1980 during the study of aerial photographs.

Old Lyme shell heap "promised much information that would materially assist in the eventual reconstruction of aboriginal life and events in the New England area." Includes a summary of artifacts and other excavated material taken from the Black Hall site.
