Summary:
Ever since the development of kerosene lamps killed New London's whaling industry, New London has hoped to develop itself as an ocean port and trading center. In 1914 the San Francisco steamer Robert Dollar, manned by Captain E. S. Morton, added fuel to those dreams. But as of 1992, that dream has not materialized.
