Summary:
Jabez Swan, born September 1815, son of Joshua Swan and Esther Smith, was the Billy Graham of his day throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York State. He was licensed to ptreach in May of 1822 and in 1823 he married Laura Griffin of East Haddam where she worked as a seamstress. He became pastor of Stonington Borough's Baptist church in 1827. In 1873 several ministers and deacons prepared and William L. Peckham published a volume, "Jabez Swan, The Evangelist."
