Summary:
Jemima Wilkinson, (born 1707) among Quakers, first native-born woman to found an American religious society, was said to have preached from "Jemima's Rock" or "canopie rock". Unorthodox, she was charged with fraud, blasphemy and sexual promiscuity. She and her followers left this region for Seneca Lake in western New York but her memory lingers at the Haley Farm landmark rock that bears her name.
