Summary:
State of the art when it was built in 1910, Mystic Academy's building was not an ideal building for educational purposes when Carol Kimball taught there from 1950 to 1957. All bathrooms were in the basement and the fire escape was a metal stairs outside the building's west wall. Desks and chairs were fastened to the floor and heights were adjustable only with the help of the janitor. There was no running water on the second floor. Class sizes were 36 to 45 pupils but memories of the school, including the hot lunches provided by Dorothy MacDougall's crew, are happy ones. The school has become Academy Point, a senior living community.
