Summary:
The Essex Valley Railroad Company sponsored a train ride from Groton to Putnam which attracted many fans of old-fashioned trains. The engine itself, although newly built and imported from China gave passangers a nostalgic feeling since they were rarely used in the United States by this time. The coaches used for the excursion were old-fashioned, and so was the clothing worn by the conductors. The voyage attracted many spectators as well.
