Summary:
William N. Peterson has published "Mystic-Built", a history of Mystic's shipbuilding and related maritime activies. Mr. Peterson is the Seaport's associate curator for 19th century collections. It was noted in 1945 that the village of Mystic had produced more noted sea captains, a greater tonnage of fine ships and a larger number of sailing records than any place of its size in the world. Accounts of noted builders Greenman and Mallory to 20th century Gilbert and McDonald are described. Noank shipyard has a separate chapter and the last part of the book details in an alphabetical listing the careers of 563 identifiable vessels.
