Summary:
Bedtime stories in the Thornton W. Burgess book series, illustrated by Harrison Cady, filled children's heads with wonder in the 1920's. Burgess also wrote a syndicated column for The Day. There was Reddy Fox, Peter Rabbit, Little Joe Otter, Buster Bear, Johnny Chuck, Paddy Beaver, Blackyl the Crow, Bowser the Hound, Prickly Porcupine, Buster Bear, and Old Mother West Wind. There were also the Burgess imitations, animal tales by Arthur Scott Bailey. Burgess died at the age of 91, in 1965. A little museum in Sandwich, Mass. is devoted to his life and work.
