Summary:
New London's Lyceum Theatre, or Opera House, was built about 1889 on Washington Street. It was designed by architect Francis H. Kimball of New York and the three-story French Gothic theatre provided state-of-the-art equipment for traveling theatrical companies with their world class musicians and actors. The theatre was demolished in 1959 after radio, movies, television and the great depression made traveling theater companies all but obsolete.
