Title:
Land grant from Uncas to the government of Connecticut
Date:
September 29, 1640
Scope & Content:
Mimeograph transcription of a deed of land from Uncas to the Governor and magistrates of Connecticut. Uncas grants the English all the land that belongs to him, whether it be called Moheegan (Mohegan), Yomtake, Aquapauksuks, Poctstannocks, Wippawocks, Massapeaks or any other name. Uncas stipulates, however, that his people may use the ground that they have already planted on and improved. His people, Uncas promises, will not try to plant on or reclaim any of the rest of the land that he has deeded over to the English.
