Scope & Content:
Mimeograph transcriptionof letter in which the Narragansetts and the Niantics lay blame on one another for the delinquent delivery of fathomes of wampum to John Winthrop. Winthrop rejects a tardy payment of only part of the tribute. The Commission believes it has a good excuse for warfare against the tribes, but opts to "show how highly they prize peace with all men and particularly to manifest their forbearance and long sufferings to these Barbarians".
