Title:
Letter from Benjamin Uncas and others to the Governor and General Assembly of Connecticut
Date:
May 8, 1753
Scope & Content:
Mimeograph transcription of a letter to the Governor and General Assembly asking for assistance in feeding the Mohegan children. There is little corn to make food and the children of the tribe cannot go to school because they are too hungry. Uncas pleads with the government to send some money to Mr. Fitch and Mr. Jewett so that they may buy provisions to feed the Indians. It seems that many of the men of the tribe are away on "the present expedition", the assumption being that these men are fighting in the French and Indian War.
