Title:
Narrative of Owaneco's killing of Tatuphosuwut alias Johnequam
Date:
ND
Scope & Content:
Mimeographed transcription of the account of Owaneco's killing of Tatuphosuwut, a Narragansett indian. Owaneco was sent to jail in Hartford, but bond was made by his father Uncas. Canonchet, the son of Miantonomo, was displeased, saying that if money could get a killer released, many Indians would begin killing others because there would be no consequence. Owaneco stated that he acted in self defense.
