Title:
Hallam's Memorial regarding Uncas
Date:
ND
Scope & Content:
Mimeographed transcription of a memorial by Nicholas Hallam stating that Uncas had no authority prior to the Pequot War to give land. Uncas was under a Pequot grand sachem, and when that sachem attacked Uncas, Uncas went to the protection of the English. After the war, Uncas pretended to have control over an area of land called Mohegan that the grand sachem owned. Hallam states that Uncas has no claim to land that is being laid out for Colchester and New London, and for Winthrop and Saltonstall.
