Various forms of the wide–spread communal hunt were found among the tribes of Southern New England. The communal hunt required sufficient men to round up the game in a given area and drive it to a designated spot where waiting hunters could kill it.
We find evidence to concludethat the Sachem of a particular tribe or band to say when and in what particular partof his hunting territory a communal hunt should be staged.
