Title:
A casino for Narragansetts in R. I. would be operated differently from the way Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun are.
Date:
April 16, 2000
Scope & Content:
Should the Narragansetts succeed in building their latest proposal, a $650–million glass–and–steel gambling palace in the West Warwick Business Park– it would not be an Indian casino like Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The casino would be built on private property, not tribal land. The Narragansetts would pay property taxes and be subject to all federal, state and local laws. The casino would not be subject to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act nor would it be regulated by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
