Catching birds

ND
Scope & Content:
Printed paper describing the catching of birds.

A long time ago there lived a curious bird called the "Wuttoonwaganash," which means "ears" or "hear quick". He did hear sounds very quickly and would dive beneath the waters like a flash to escape capture. The Indians took them by building a weir of stakes across some little inlet of the sea. They would drive the birds behind the stakes and when the tide went out, the birds were stranded.
