Title:
Letter regarding Pocomtuck intrusion on English land
Date:
May 26, 1658
Scope & Content:
A mimeograph transcription of a letter pertaining to the interrogation of Pocumtocook Indians who passed through the Hartford/ Farmington area in a "hostile Manur". The Englishmen ask various questions, including whether the Indians had stolen from Robert Coles's house and the whereabouts of a Mohegan captive of theirs. The chief of the group is Wonepekuin and he seems to encourage his cohorts to give vague answers to the Englishmen's questions.
