Title:
Letter from Roger Williams to John Winthrop Jr. about Ninigret's daughter
Date:
November 21, 1648
Scope & Content:
Mimeographed transcription of a letter from Roger Williams to John Winthrop Jr. relating the request of Ninigret that his daughter be allowed to marry Tausaquonawhut, a young sachem sent to Long Island. The English oppose this marriage because Tausaquonawhut is Pequot. Ninigret states that Tausaquonawhut was too young to fight in the war, and would not harm the English. Ninigret would like Tausaquonawhut to be able to live near him and his family.
