The white birch had a tremendous effect on the economic life of the Indians who lived within the range of it's distribution. Birch-bark satisfied many of the needs of the Indians of the old birch-bark hunting culture. It was qualities inherent in birch-bark that made it an ideal medium for utilitarian and ceremonial objects in many shapes and sizes.
