The white birch had a tremendous effect on the economic life of the Indians who lived within the range of it's distribution. Birch–bark satisfied many of the needs of the Indians of the old birch–bark hunting culture. It was qualities inherent in birch–bark that made it an ideal medium for utilitarian and ceremonial objects in many shapes and sizes.
