Mimeograph transcription of a letter to the Court of Commissioners concerning the controversy of the sachemdom of the Mohegans. Ben Uncas was the intended successor of his father but John Mason tried to install Mahomet as the next–in–line. However, Mahomet saw the trouble that this caused within the tribe and conceded the title of sachem to young Ben Uncas. Thomas Rose was among the Mohegans during this time of upheaval.
