Title:
Pequot claims that Uncas did not own land
Date:
September 1, 1663
Scope & Content:
Mimeographed transcription of testimony by Cassisinnamon, Kitchamaquin, Tomsquash, And Eocoadno (Pequots) and Womsosh, Mumuho and Kaiton (Narragansetts) stating the history of land ownership in the area claimed by Uncas. Uncas owned very little land before the Pequot War, and was driven out five times by the Pequot sachem, thus loosing his land. After joining the English in the Pequot War, Uncas became sachem. The indians who testified believe that the land belongs to the English because they conquered the Pequots.
