Written in the view of an encyclopedic work rather than a diary, comments on regional geography, hydrography, flora, fauna, minerology, farming and commerce. The text begins by relating the birth, early years and immediate relatives of the author. Details the author's travels to Litchfield County, Connecticut to live with his brother and subsequent removal to the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Includes three and a half pages of poetry. The author discusses travel across New York State and the general character, crops and available fish and game, of the areas traversed. The author also discusses his time at sea in November 1837. Fifteen pages, 7 7/8" x 10 1/4".
