Summary:
James J. Hill founds the Eastern Shipbuilding Company in Groton with the construction of the freighters Minnesota and Dakota which had opium dens to attract oriental customers, and by March 1903 the location, later known as the North Yard of General Dynamics Corporation with its 1954 launching of the USS Nautilus, was in full swing.
