Summary:
What's left of Fort Decatur stands in Ledyard on a height known variously as Allyn's mountain, Dragon Hill or Mt. Decatur. Its history dates back to the War of 1812 when Commodore Stephen Decatur and the frigates Macedonian and United States and the sloop-of-war Hornet sought refuge in the Thames in June of 1813. A huge water tank for the Mohegan Sun is planned to be built on this historic site at the protest of local historical groups.
