Summary:
History of the Fort Griswold Hotel. Originally the Ocean House, built in 1846, by Capt. Silas Fiske built the Ocean House at Eastern Point. It was later replaced by the Edgecomb House. In 1884, the Surdevants renovated it renovated and renamed it the Fort Griswold House.
In 1905, when the Fort Griswold House had become shabby, it was raized in September, and the new hotel was completed in May of 1906. It was highly successful until the depression caused reduced occupancy, It was torn eventually down in 1969.
