Summary:
In 1875 there was a site identification of the Pequot fort at Mystic where in 1637 an attack led by John Mason and his troops, aided by Mohegan Indians and Uncas, took place. However, the Mason monument in Mystic was not erected until 1889 and not everyone agreed that Pequot Hill was the fort site. Some favored Great Hill on River Road and some thought the site, later known at the location of the Mystic Oral School, was the place.
