Summary:
Daboll's almanacs were essential to life in southern New England with its weather predictions, tidal tables, anecdotes and pleasantries and advertisers. It missed predicting the 1938 hurricane but was general enough to hit the mark more often than not. The New England Almanac and Farmers' Friend was published in New London by the Daboll family for 195 years, no other American almanac can approach that record. The 1894 edition, according to Professor Littner, reports that eggs of the gypsy moth blew out of the window from the collection of a naturalist 20 years ago.
