Both John Pintard and John Kindrick boarded two ships, the Columbia and the Lady Washington and sailed from Boston to the northwest coast of North America to trade with the indians for sea otter pelts, then taking the pelts to China to exchage them for Chinese goods. They then circumvented the Globe.Another journey to the north west, Captain Grey and his ship sailed up the river of the west and named it the Columbia. This was first American ship to sail around the world. In second voyage the captain made the first US claim to the Oregon territory
