Summary:
Mystic's Flat Hammock Press published "Hell on Ice", written in 1938 by Commander Edward Ellsberg. The book tells about the tragic Jeannette Expedition of 1879 and the important role played by New London whaling captain William Dunbar in rescuing many of the explorers who, after twenty-two months of Polar Regions drifting, were able to escape the vessel in three small boats after the Jeannette was crushed by ice. It is believed that Dunbar was lost at sea after managing to lead survivors to open water and the hope for safety.
