Summary:
A wonderful summary of the dedication of the Civil War monument in Mystic, 1883. A ceremony was held on June 13, 1883, including Governor Waller, the National Guade and Band, Mystic veterens, and the Norwich Grand Army boys in uniform.Wanting to fire a salute to the governor, Lt. Fish, he gave the order for the assembled artillery to fire just as the veterans were crossing Jackson Avenue. The men were hit with powder, clothing torn and scorched, and some were hit by wadding. The injured were taken away and speeches followed. After unveiling the monument a luncheon was served.
