Summary:
Samoset was the Indian who could speak English and helped the Pilgrims settle in Plymouth. He told the Wampanoag sachem Massasoit the Pilgrims wanted peace. Squanto, his true name was Tisquantum, was a native of the Patuxet tribe in Plymouth who, among many other things, assisted Captain John Smith map Cape Cod and showed the Pilgrims how to farm and fish in the new lands and served as a guide and interpreter.
