Summary:
Mystic Seaport's Rosenfeld Collection represents the work of the New York firm of Morris Rosenfeld & Sons, world renowned for maritime photography. The seaport has just published, 2007, a book entitled, On Land and On Sea: A Century of Women in the Rosenfeld Collection illustrating young girls learning to sail, women doing volunteer work in WWI, women in sports, women at work in the past century. The cover image features Phyllis Brodie Gordon Sopwith, wife of Thomas Octave Murdock Sopwith, of Sopwith camel fame, on the yacht Endeavour II. Suffragists, Red Cross workers, first World War women, women telephone workers and women in sports were recorded. The book is designed by Clare Cunningham.
