Summary:
Groton Bank was first settled in 1655. It was called New London's East Side with ferry service between the two banks of the Thames River, Groton became a separate town in 1705. Thames Street was originally called Bank Street, just like the Bank Street in New London. The are was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
