Summary:
The war of 1812, Mr. Madison's War, began before Mystic had a newspaper of its own. The war's events were finally recorded when the weekly Mystic Pioneer appeared in 1859 in columns entitled Historical Leaves. One of the most daring schemes involved the masquerade of the privateer barge Yankee and a series of practical jokes at British expense.
