Summary:
DAR, The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, with its spinning wheel insignia designed by Smithsonian's James Brown Goode is an active part of America's history. Mathew B. Brady photographs the DAR leaders at First Continental Congress (2/22/1892). Subsequent Connecticut Chapters, each named for a woman noted for her own or her husbands war service, is far from being passive as they perform active services such as securing Fort Griswold for a state park; refurbishing and enlarging the Monument House museum; contributing to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and by providing financial aid to a number of schools. Any woman who can trace her ancestry back to a Revolutionary War partriot is eligible to join the DAR.
