Summary:
Built in Mystic, the Owasco, a Civil War wooden gunboat launched October 5, 1861, plays an active part in the U.S. Navy. The vessel joined Commodore D. D. Porter's squadron at Key West in 1862 and went out of commission at the New York Navy Yard July 12, 1865. It reflected great credit on the Mystic shipyard workers who built her as well as the navy officers and crew who manned her.
