Summary:
Willimantic, once filled with textile mills until they closed in the 1930's, was nicknamed "Thread City" and is the perfect place for the Windham Textile and History Museum. The museum was the brainchild of Laura Knott Twine and it recreates some of the bygone days including a display of the mill's company store and where the workers, many of them immigrants, were taught to read and write.
