Summary:
In this article, the author remembers how her mother always made her clothes during childhood. Kimball explains that her mother was a very good at sewing and she always loved her mother's clothes until she went to school and realized that the clothes her mother made always had matching underwear built in. These "bloomers" stood in contrast to the clothes of other students and embarressed her. Since her mother was non-compromising in her inclusion of the bloomers, she asked her aunt for a store-bought dress for her birthday which she recieved. Her mother was dissapointed and maintained her displeasure with the dress, which did not stop the author from wearing it.
