Summary:
Rail Ferries on the Thames were used to ferry railroad cars across the Thames river in order to allow the shore line trains to continue its run from New York to Boston. Before the rail Ferries were built, passengers would have to transfer to a passenger ferry and then transfer to a train on the other side of the Thames. When the railroad bridge was opoened in 1889, the railroad ferries passed into history .
