Summary:
Kevin McBride and the Public Archaeology Survey Team did an extensive survey of land for the proposed trash to energy plant in Griswold and found no evidence of significant Indian habitation, including any remains. Suspected burial mounds were a result of tree wind-throws. The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority will move forward with their plan, according to Mitch Suzich, project coordinator. McBride also looked into claims that the land had been deeded to the Preston Pequot-Mohegan Indians until as late as 1918, but concluded that the deed referred to property farther south of the Preston site.
