Kimball details early history of Yale University, which came into being as an answer to Harvard University in 1702, largely to train clergymen as the population of the colonies expanded. The school remained in Saybrook for 15 years, when it was moved to its current location in New Haven. When Elihu Yale donated a valuable piece of property to the school, it was named after him.
