Summary:
Mrs.Cuthbert Harrison Slocomb, nee Abby Day in Stonington, was an original member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and organized a chapter in Groton adopting the name of Anna Warner Bailey. The Connecticut General Assembly turned over the monument house to the DAR for their meeting headquarters in 1894. Under her leadership the fort and the adjoining lands were saved from threatened development. When she realized the the state had no state flag, she had the chapter prepare several designs that were submitted to the General Assembly. The design they approved became our state flag.
