Summary:
Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic celebrated its Centennial Commencement the spring of 1990. Eastern was founded in 1889 as Willimantic Normal School and grew with the single purpose of teacher preparation. The school was renamed Willimantic State Normal School by 1933 about the time Carol Kimball became one of its students. She was in attendance when the school was up-graded to Willimantic State Teachers College. As of 1990 more than 4,000 students are enrolled and instead of solely teacher preparation, the university offers 17 major programs of study.
