Summary:
Columbus statue was unveiled by Giuleta (Juliet) Fusconi on October 12, 1928 at Tyler Square in New London. The project orignated in October 1926 when, under the auspices of the Loggia Cristoforo Columbo, Sons of Italy in America, all Italian organizations in the city met to work together to provide the statue created by Italian sculptor, Armand Battelli of Pietrasuate and shipped to the US aboard the liner President Harrison. Some of the Italian organizations that contributed to the project were: Italian Ladies Aid Society, Sicilian Society, Gloria Lodge, Daughters of Italy in America, Caltauturese Society, Societa Tuscana, Societa Murrese and even Lega Fascisti.
