Captain Cook, a British navy veteran, explored the lands and waters of Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, the South Sea Islands and Hawaii. But of local interest was a 25-year old American, John Ledyard, who kept a journal of the voyage on board Cook's flagship Resolution.
