Summary:
The New London DAR Chapter was named after Lucretia Shaw, wife of Nathaniel Shaw Jr., and was the second DAR chapter organized in Connecticut in 1892. She entertained many heroes of the war at the Shaw Mansion: Nathan Hale, Gov. Jonathan Trumbull and George Washington. The Groton DAR chapter honors Anna Warner Bailey, the first woman to enter Fort Griswold after the British attacked New London and Groton Sept. 6, 1781. DAR Chapters went on to honor the objective of good citizenship via yearly selections of a High School senior chosen by the faculty and principal.
